An easy Snowshoe trip into a snowy gully where we enjoy million dollar views and get involved in the fun business of enjoying the snow.

Snowshoes allow you to walk across unbroken snow without sinking up to your waist. Its fun and easy.

An easy family experience with a short walk into a snowy gully on your Snowshoes.  Once there we have a range of fun activities based around play, shaping and using snow in all its forms.  This requires a low level of fitness and is a shorter 4 hour return trip to Queenstown with your choice of morning or afternoon departures.  The minimum Child age is 3 years.

This makes it perfect for families and customers keen for the snow but uninterested in going for a long walk. We build several fun snow features which you can take a turn at enlarging and maintaining. Snow caves, igloo, carved tables and animals all turn up through the season.

WALKING DISTANCE: Less than a kilometer.  A minimum level of fitness will ensure you enjoy your Snowshoe trip.  If in doubt please call to discuss.

DEPARTURES: 8.00am & 1:30pm

PICKUP: We pick up from most Queenstown accommodations, excludes private residence.

MINIMUM NUMBERS: Two persons or equivalent price

We have a limited number of boots, coats, fleece jackets and waterproof over-trousers available for free loan whilst on our snowshoeing trips. Please ask us when you book.

Note: When booking one adult ticket and one child ticket, the family discount (50% discount on the child rate) will automatically apply within our booking system.

Snowshoeing Adventure

Head out to the back country with one of our experienced guides.

Our most popular product takes you on an ascent up into the Lake Alta cirque surrounded by inspiring peaks.  There you can walk on a frozen lake, explore snow caves and have a great picnic lunch. The views from here are stunning.

This takes about 6 hours return to Queenstown and can be tailored to the fitness of your group.  If you want to head for the peaks we suggest you opt for a private departure. There is a gradual climb to get into the lake so a good level of fitness is a requirement.  Minimum child age 8 years.

Have fun expanding snow caves and carving your own ‘snow chair’ to relax in while you enjoy a refreshing hot drink and delicious lunch.

The trip itself is normally about 4km walk and we climb about 200m so a moderate level of fitness is required.  However with most of the day to enjoy the mountains in we take our time with frequent stops to rest on our way up.  Once by the lake we have several activities, including lunch, to occupy us.  Fitter groups can go higher and view a different perspective on the many mountain ranges surrounding us.

Heli-Snowshoeing

In inclement weather your pilot will choose walking areas where the elements are more inviting. The rest is up to you – along with your guide, you will create a memories that will stay with you forever.

Heli-Snowshoeing – The Trip

Half Day Trip

On top of the world just minutes from Queenstown, and without the strenuous climb. In this area, surrounded by towering jagged mountain peaks and hidden winter alpine life, the only way to access this pristine environment is by Helicopter.

Endless mountain-tops, hidden valleys and frozen lakes stretch into infinity, Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu far below. Silence and remoteness surround you in this very special environment where you can heli hike and explore at leisure.

Once your helicopter flight gets the adrenalin is rushing, you’ll don a pair of our high-tech snowshoes and you’re ready to go. Gone are the old tennis racquet style snowshoes and in are the new, slim line snowshoes which let you feel as if you are floating across the snow. Snowshoes allow you to snow hike across unbroken snow without sinking up to your waist, opening up huge possibilities for wilderness exploration.

Then you and your expert guide can explore the snow covered wilderness that surrounds you. Snowshoeing from Queenstown offers an exciting exploration of the white wintery wilderness. Most of the area around Queenstown is backcountry, and offers kilometers of snow in winter for snowshoeing.

As with all our snowshoe trips, we have a privately guided Heli Snowshoe option where we can tailor the terrain, duration and pace especially for you.
